Bangkok, Thailand, is a gateway to traveling across Southeast Asia.
The city is huge and hosts many things, from the traditional to the modern, gorgeous spas to street foods, and so it goes on. You can easily spend your entire holiday in this city. But, wait. There are many more places to head to beyond Bangkok, so it’d help if you knew what to see and do at a minimum in this city.
Or, you may be in Bangkok for a business trip and have only a few hours to hang out after business meetings. Here is what to see and do if you have only half a day in Bangkok.
Go to the most beautiful and peaceful places in Bangkok first.
So, you’ve just landed in Bangkok and it’s 12:00 pm. What should you see and do till the night time? First off, head to places where you can witness how religious and loyal the Thai people are – the temples and palace. Just follow the suggestions in your guidebook – Wat Phra Kaeo and Grand Palace, and Wat Pho. As these are located next to each other, there’s no need to worry too much about time. Everything is beautiful and it all showcases sophisticated design and decoration. Walk around at your own pace and spend time looking at whatever catches your eye!
As you wander around the complex, it’s a definitely a good idea to drop by some of the temples. You’ll get to witness the rigorous and religious ambience there. Fresh flowers are offered every day and you’ll see the god leaf-covered Buddha, which is another method of worship.
If you follow the crowd in Wat Pho, you won’t miss the Reclining Buddha. This Reclining Buddha has a smile as it projects its maleness in subtle ways (compared to some of the Buddhas in other places in Southeast Asia).
Massage – another thing you shouldn’t miss while in Thailand!
Even if you have only half a day in Bangkok, it’s still possible to take an hour or more for a massage! There are plenty of massage places claiming to offer the “best and cheapest” massage. If you’re good at asking Google, you can find a good one near to where you’re!
Hang out on Kaosan Road and grab a light meal!
By the time you’ve refreshed yourself with a Thai massage, it may have gotten dark outside, which is the best time to hang out on Kaosan Road.
When we were proud young backpackers, we used to enjoy the street foods served at all the stalls packed along the road. The place was always a bustle of vendors, clubs and backpackers. We missed much of this here recently, but the area still has a lively vibe. Grab some foods that catch your eye, such as fruits, noodles or a bottle of beer, then enjoy them as you walk along the road.
This is a BBQ shop of crocodile meat! You can order a part that you want!
And you can eat scorpion BBQ for your night energy:) hehe
And something like these too if you dare!
Enjoy a relaxing time at a rooftop bar with a great night view
Yes, this is it. If you ask Google, you will find many sky bars in the city. While many may not be as reasonable as the things on Kaosan Road, it’s still worth relaxing and escaping the hustle and bustle of the city before you head off to another city in Southeast Asia or another busy working day!
