Galle is situated on the Southwestern tip of the island of Sri Lanka, 119 km from Colombo and 56 km from Bentota. Tourists visit the place for its port town developed and fortified during the Dutch, Portuguese and British colonial periods. The Galle Fort Hotel is located in the heart of the old town.
The building used to be a private house during the Dutch colonial period. The pool in the central courtyard is surrounded by 12 guest rooms. The design is influenced by Geoffrey Bawa, who was a Sri Lankan architect and one of the most influential Asian architects. The rooms and common spaces are decorated with quality antique furniture and it is sure to give you a feel of classical colonial times.
The building is maintained cleanly and is well preserved. However, you shouldn’t expect to be able to relax and spend a few days like at a resort hotel. Because of the nature of the port town, you’ll spend time taking a walk in the town during the day and have a good rest at the peaceful hotel at night.
Location: Located in the center of the town. Almost all key highlights are within walking distance.
