by Aruko

Hi, there! I’m Aruko. I’m a full-time office worker and I enjoy my work every day in my job. But my life isn’t complete without travel and cooking. I’m a Japanese and and currently traveling from and cooking in Singapore.

My favorite things in life are walking and sunny days. They are what inspired the name of this blog!

Quote from Marcel Proust: “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes.” I firmly believe this to be true.

I travel as my curiosity dictates. Travel makes me feel alive, excited, and inspired, and it stirs my imagination. I love those moments when I encounter something new, and travel is full of such moments. I’m particularly fascinated by places where different cultures meet and interact, such as old Asian port towns and the ancient trading cities of the Silk Road where people used to come and go, exchanging things and ideas from ancient times. Such places make me ask a lot of questions and imagine. How did people react to the different culture? How did the interaction create changes in their belief and life? And so it goes on. I always take a history or culture book with me on my travels, and this also helps me to see “with new eyes.” The world is huge and diverse. History is full of individual and collective stories. Travel makes me feel blessed that I am able to witness a part of it.

My husband and I also love walking in nature. As you will see in some of the post in this blog, trekking is always top of our wish list for a long holiday.

Cooking means caring for myself and my family.

I cook and it’s how I take care of myself and my family. I strongly believe “you are what you eat.” We should know and control what our bodies are taking in, as this eventually impacts on both our bodies and minds. Our weekdays begin with breakfast that we prepare in a bit of rush before going to office. On weekends, we enjoy slow-cooked meals with a bottle of wine. I also like preparing preserve foods such as jam, stock sauce, and home-made fruit liquor, knowing that a lot of the preserve foods out there contain things that our bodies find difficult to digest. In this blog, I’d like to share some of the quick, easy, and healthy Japanese recipes that we use on busy days.

In the same way that many websites out there inspire me and give me tips, I hope that some of the posts in this blog will inspire your next trip or your family’s dinner this evening! Please feel free to message me via the contact form below, or find me on Instagram. Thank you so much for reading this blog!
