When visiting a strange city, you never fail to eat great foods if you follow the recommendations of your local friend. This sweet place, Kai Kai Dessert, was on a long list of recommendations given to me by my Hong Kongese colleague. I later discovered that it’s listed in Michelin’s Hong Kong street food guide. Even if I didn’t know this, I’d definitely include this place in this blog.
We visited Kai Kai Dessert on the first day of our visit to Hong Kong after we had eaten a heavy dinner nearby. As a sesame lover, I ordered Black Sesame and Sweet Almond Soup. I worried whether this was going to be sweet, but despite of its rich appearance, the sweet ginger sesame soup has just the right level of sweetness with a pronounced sesame flavor. We completed the cup of soup, just like we had more space in our stomach.
We went back to the place again the next day. Like the day before, local people kept coming and going as the shop’s staff was making preparation at a table in the corner to serve fresh soup. Kai Kai Dessert is a perfect place to chill on a lazy afternoon or while local food shopping in the Chinese food paradise city of Hong Kong.
